  weird "shepherding" phone call

  as many of you know, i recently wrote a letter to the elders telling them to make sure the congregation stays off my property.

  in the letter i mentioned that i "left the organization several years ago.

  " i have not had any contact with any witneses for about 5 years even though i was not disfellowshipped and not even counseled; i just stopped showing up.. well last night a brother called me (not an elder, just a publisher) but i let the call go to voice mail.

  Hare Krishnas? I Know This Site Is For JW But . . .

  i have learned a lot about cults on this site and cannot thank you all enough for helping me get a sense of what is going on with my jw acquaintance.

  as it turns out, another friend of mine told me she goes to the hare krishna temple.

  she is a wonderful person, and we have been spending time together having long conversations.

  rip van winkle - Actually, my JW acquaintance will no longer speak with me. I learned the hard way what happens when you challenge someone's religion - of course nevermind that they go around criticizing everyone else's beliefs, religious or secular, and -initiate- the conversation! They can dish it out but can't take it.

  InterestedOne- Sorry about your JW acquaintance. It is true. As Witnesses we are trained to not read any "apostate" religious material. Plus, we are convinced we have the truth so we don't need to look at any other literature. But, of course, we have the Mankind's Search for God book to aid us in understanding other people's beliefs. The whole purpose of preaching is conversion of interested people.

  So why do you come to this part of town? You're not interested in having another study, are you!!!???

  Is the Watchtower Corporation guilty of purposely infusing a overwhelming amount of fear to control people ?

  if you were to pin point out the workings of the wts., of what attracts people to the.

  organization and what is the catalyst that controls them once.

  they are inside of it, the conclusion would most likely be drawn that fear is the paramount.

  For me FEAR was definitely a factor. I decided to have a study after the 1st Gulf War started.

  Several years prior, I had some discussions with a co-worker who was a JW and was given the Live Forever book. I thought it was the most ridiculous thing. Live forever. Yeah, sure.

  I won't get into the specific details, but I did have a brief study as I had alot of questions. This JW wasn't equipped to answer my qstns and so decided to let someone in my home territory call on me.

  I thought the way they "study" was completely ridiculous. Read the paragraph from the book written by the WTS and expect an answer in my own words based on that paragraph. After several attempts of trying to 1st get answers to my qstns before I would have a study in their book was impossible. So,after several attempts, I decided it was not for me. Anyway, these particular Bethelites were really peculiar.

  My co-worker continued to occassionally place mags with me(5 or more at a time) instead of answering any question. (Didn't know at the time that mags were counted or that I was the dumping ground!!!)

  Actually, only in the past year I realized how the depictions in the magazines impacted my thinking. Great trib, armgdn,etc. (like Kurtbethel posted). Their message is doomsday and pessimism.

  Fast forward several years later, the Gulf War. I opened up the Live Forever book and started reading it again. The images on the TV news was so like the images in the books and magazines of theWTS publications. And sometime after, I requested a study.

  Fear was definitely a factor for me.

  eve though my life(spiritual) hasn't been sorted yet...i'm really looking forward to this!
